I firmly believe that students bring their unique talents and goals to their education, and the classroom should support their academic and personal growth. Second language acquisition requires consistent effort, patience, meaningful communicative practice, and, to some extent, immersion. These principles should guide instruction, as effective language teaching aligns with students’ needs and learning processes. Students should have frequent opportunities to communicate in the target language both inside and outside the classroom.
As a teacher, I aim to motivate and encourage students by providing meaningful, engaging activities that are relevant to their interests and support language development. I create a supportive learning environment by explicitly framing mistakes as a natural part of language acquisition, giving constructive feedback, and encouraging students to ask questions and take risks when communicating. I follow Communicative Language Teaching as an effective approach. To present material to my students, I use the Present-Practice-Perform method, which allows students time to understand new material, practice it independently or with a partner, and apply their learning.
To monitor students’ understanding and their progress in developing communicative language skills, I use a range of assessments, including small quizzes, in-class speaking tasks, online audio recordings, and larger exams. I also incorporate homework assignments and class presentations as lower-stakes assessments, combining both formal and informal methods to account for different learning and testing styles. As students work in pairs or groups, I move throughout the classroom to check for understanding, support those who are struggling, and interact with students in ways that encourage them to ask questions and seek clarification.
I believe that respect and authority are necessary elements in managing a classroom. I establish authority early by clearly communicating expectations, modeling appropriate behavior, and implementing consistent routines that provide structure and predictability for students. I engage students through interactive activities designed to facilitate communicative competence. I aim for students to feel confident asking questions, participating, and communicating in the target language.
